PODCAST CLIP: THE CAMBRIA HYPOCRISY: WHO IS GOVERNMENT REALLY WORKING FOR?
The Cambria solar project exposes something that drives people crazy about politics. Republicans tell us they believe in limited government, local control, and free markets. Democrats tell us they stand with working people and local communities. Then a giant corporate project shows up, and suddenly both parties start finding reasons to support subsidies, incentives, tax breaks, and special treatment. Why? If this project is such a great investment, why does it need government help? FOR A FOREIGN COMPANY????? If it’s going to make so much money, why are taxpayers being asked to sweeten the deal? Western New York is sitting on something incredibly valuable: fertile farmland created over thousands of years and shaped by the last Ice Age. George Washington himself praised New York’s agricultural potential. Yet we’re acting as if this land is disposable. WE DON'T FUND THAT? WE FUND THIS? This isn’t really about solar panels. It’s about priorities. Why does it always seem like billion-dollar corporations can get meetings, incentives, lawyers, consultants, and special treatment while ordinary people struggle to get their voices heard? The average resident gets told there’s no money. The corporation gets told there’s always money. That’s the problem. This isn’t just a Republican problem. It isn’t a Democratic problem either. It’s an establishment problem. Too many politicians are focused on serving the people with the biggest checkbooks instead of the people who actually live here. And that’s how communities lose faith in government. The question isn’t whether you’re for solar or against solar. The question is simple: Who is government really working for?
